Federal PLUS Loans for Graduate and Professional Students
Please Note:
Different colleges and universities use different terms to describe their higher degree programs. Some use the term “graduate,” others “professional.”
- Available on or after July 1, 2006.
- Borrow up to the cost of attendance for the period of enrollment, minus other estimated financial assistance.
- First payment is due approximately 30 days after the final disbursement of the loan.
- Borrower may receive a payment deferment while enrolled on at least a half-time basis (no grace period if the student falls below a half-time enrollment status).
- Fixed 8.5% interest rate.
- Reduce Your Loan Rate with Automatic Payment Deductions: Receive an additional 0.25% off your rate when your payments are automatically deducted from a Navy Federal checking account or other financial institution's savings or checking account.
Effective on Stafford and PLUS Loans disbursed after July 1, 2000, and effective on consolidation loans after May 1, 2002.
Eligibility:
The student must file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)—fafsa.ed.gov/—and be:
- A Navy Federal member
- A U.S. citizen or permanent resident
- Enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a degree or certificate program on at least a half-time basis at an approved school
