Privacy Notice for Navy Federal® and its affiliates

Our Privacy Principles:

  • We do not sell member information.
  • We do not allow those who are doing business on our behalf to use our member information for their own marketing purposes.
  • We contractually require any organization providing products or services on our behalf to protect Navy Federal member information.
  • We afford prospective and former members the same protections as existing members with respect to the use of personal information.

Navy Federal is committed to protecting the personal information that you have entrusted to us. This Privacy Notice explains what information Navy Federal and its subsidiaries (collectively “affiliates”) collect, when we share it and how we protect it. It covers all Navy Federal affiliates including Navy Federal Credit Union, Navy Federal Financial Group®, Navy Federal Investments & Insurance and other service providers that are owned directly or indirectly by Navy Federal Credit Union. Protecting personal information and using it in a manner consistent with your expectations is a priority for everyone in the Navy Federal family.

Your personal information
In the course of providing you products and services, we collect information from you in person, during telephone interviews and on applications and other forms you provide. We may also collect information about you from outside sources such as credit reporting agencies. Additionally, we maintain records of your transactions with us.

Sharing with third parties

Within the Navy Federal family
Navy Federal affiliates work together to offer you a wide range of financial products and services. We may share information among ourselves about the products and services you maintain with us. We do this to serve you more efficiently and make it easier for you to conduct business within the Navy Federal family. For example, if you obtain brokerage services through Navy Federal Brokerage Services and request to pay for a trade using funds in your checking account, Navy Federal will confirm whether you have the funds available to execute the trade.

With companies not in the Navy Federal family
We do not share any personal information about you or our former members or customers with third parties, except as permitted or required by law and as necessary for business purposes. For example, we may share information to comply with U.S. tax laws and court orders, or with credit reporting agencies.

We also share information with companies that work for us in providing you products and services. Such companies include check printers, savings insurance companies, data processors and online bill payment service providers. These companies act on our behalf and are obligated to keep any information we share with them confidential.

Navy Federal affiliates seek to meet your financial needs. From time to time, we may enter into joint marketing agreements with other companies to offer you high-quality financial products and services at reduced prices, or to provide marketing services on our behalf. For example, we may enter into joint marketing agreements with non-affiliated third parties to offer you stock, bond, and mutual fund investment services, insurance products and other financial products or services that we cannot or do not otherwise offer. We may also enter into agreements with companies that provide mail services to notify you of our products and services or other special promotions. As part of these agreements, we may share account-related information such as your name, address or account activity. These agreements require that your information be kept confidential and be used only for reasons agreed to by us.

Please be aware that third parties can obtain your personal information from outside sources. This information could be used for solicitation purposes. For example, when you obtain a mortgage or equity loan, by law the transaction is recorded in the public land records of the jurisdiction where the property is located. This information—including the lender’s name—becomes public and is available to anyone who visits the Record Clerk’s office.

Keeping your information secure

We access your personal information only upon your request, to service or maintain your accounts or to provide other services. We maintain physical, electronic and procedural safeguards that comply with federal regulations to guard your personal information.

Your privacy choices
Under certain circumstances, federal laws give you the right to instruct financial companies not to share some of your information. This is referred to as “opting out” of information sharing. For information shared among affiliates, you may opt out of a direct marketing of products and services by Navy Federal affiliates with whom you do not have a prior business relationship. You may do this by mailing or calling the toll-free number of the appropriate Navy Federal company below. An opt out by a joint account holder will be treated as applying to all associated joint account holders. Note: If you have already requested this, there is no need to do so again.

Navy Federal affiliates only share information with non-affiliated third parties for normal business reasons. Therefore, you may not be able to "opt out" of certain information-sharing activities.
